It turns out the Airstream did have rear end separation, so we hired an expert to fix it. A three week project turned into a six-month ordeal. But we got almost everything we didn’t (or couldn’t) do ourselves fixed.
Here are some of the pictures of the repairs in-progress:
The expert was supposed to take pictures of the whole process, but he skipped, or or lost, all the important pictures of the frame repairs. So we only have the finished pictures:
Some of the things that were repaired or modified included:
- Fixed rear end separation
- Fixed sagging stair and water damage at entrance
- New interior and exterior skin where the water heater used to be
- New interior and exterior skin where the furnace used to be (Turned out to be incorrectly replaced in the past)
- New black AND grey tanks (most Airstreams of this vintage don’t have grey tanks)
- All the little useless knick-knacks applied to the exterior were removed
- New LED tail and running lights that everyone who sees them is impressed by.
- TV antenna removed
- One vent removed
- Tub plumbing added
The axle was replaced after the expert was finished.
